Doppler Effect

A small speaker is driven with an amplified sine wave of suitable frequency. The speaker is swung in a circular arc at the end of a SECURELY ATTACHED cable. The sound is perceived to vary between a higher and lower tone as the speaker moves alternately toward and away from the audience. The effect may also be demonstrated in smaller classrooms with a large tuning fork that may be moved to and fro quickly enough to hear the variation in tone.
