Kinetic Theory and Diffusion (Balls in an Aspirator Jar)

Small Styrofoam balls in a 10 liter aspirator jar simulate gas atoms in a container. Kinetic energy is imparted to the balls by means of a variable pressure air supply coupled to the side opening of the jar (pointing toward the back, and not visible in the photo). The top opening of the jar (pointing toward the right in the photo) serves as an aperture through which the “atoms” may diffuse.
