The Wire Fryer (AC Version)

A single turn of heavy insulated wire is looped through the center of a toroidal solenoid (the core of an old Variac). The ends of the wire are twisted together to form a circuit. When the solenoid is plugged into the 110 volt mains the changing magnetic flux produces enough current to melt the insulation of the wire. An interesting point on which to comment is the fact that the magnetic field is contained entirely within the toroid, making the magnetic field zero at every point on the wire loop!
